the best of card + board games
The best card + board games according to YOU! We asked what your favorite games were and pulled the top ten for this post! If you are looking for a new game, there are so many good ones in this round up! I love games. Some of these I have never played, but can’t wait to give them a try!
Skull King - Tied with secret hitler for the most recommended game! This game is perfect for a big age range of people! I’ve never played but it sounds a lot like Mormon Bridge, which we love! Looking at the start of your cards each round you declare how many hands you will take that round and try and match that!
Monopoly Deal - Say no to hours and hours playing one game of monopoly. Monopoly deal has all the fun features of the traditional monopoly game played in wayy less time. Be the first collect 3 full property sets of different colors, and you’ll win the Monopoly Deal Card Game.
Secret Hitler - This game was recommended over and over again. It sounds so fun! Players are secretly divided into two teams - liberals and fascists. Known only to each other, the fascists coordinate to sow distrust and install their cold-blooded leader. The liberals must find and stop the Secret Hitler before it’s too late.
Cover Your Assets - One of our favorite family games! You amass a fortune by collecting and building an alternating tower of matching pairs of asset cards. You’ve got to be careful though, because the top set of assets on your stack can be stolen by other players if they hold a matching asset or a gold or silver wild card.
Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza - Keep these 5 crazy words in mind. As soon as there is a match between a card and a spoken word, race against each other to slap your hand on the central pile of cards. The last one to do so must take them all. This game is perfect for all ages & a quick one to learn!
Left Center Right - One of our favorite games! Everyone starts with 3 chips then take turns rolling the dice to see what to do with your chips! Swap your chips out for $1 bills for an even more intense game. Winner takes all, it is the best party game!
Five Crowns - If you have been around the Hafen family at all chances are you have played a game of five crowns! To me, this game is a quicker version of phase ten. I love it & have been converted from my life long love of phase 10! Collect books + runs and be the first to get rid of your cards!
Unstable Unicorns - Unstable Unicorns is a strategic card game about everyone's two favorite things: Destruction & Unicorns. The goal of Unstable Unicorns is to be the first person to collect seven Unicorns in your play area, also known as your Stable. Use Magic, Instant, Upgrade, and Downgrade cards to hinder your opponents’ progress and destroy their Unicorns. But beware -- each player has all of these tools at their disposal as well, and you may just find your plans foiled by a well-played “Neigh!” card. Get ready to destroy your friendships...but in a good way.
Exploding Kittens - A highly strategic, kitty-powered version of Russian roulette. Basically, if you draw an exploding kitten, you lose and you are full of loser sad-sauce. If you don't explode, you win! Congratulations, you are full of greatness! Exploding kittens is the perfect card game for adults, teens and kids who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats.
Codenames - This game has quickly become a family favorite of ours. Even our little kids have started playing and it is so fun. I am actually the worst at this game and have a hard time not giving away my codes, gotta work on my poker face! I love this game though and highly recommend! Two rival spymasters know the secret identities of 25 agents. Their teammates know the agents only by their codenames. The teams compete to see who can make contact with all of their agents first. Spymasters give one-word clues that can point to multiple words on the table. Their teammates try to guess words of their color while avoiding those that belong to the opposing team. And everyone wants to avoid the assassin.
